David Dabydeen, Emeritus Professor of Literature at the University of Warwick and honorary fellow of Selwyn College Cambridge, has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature by a group of scholars.
Dabydeen is a poet, writer and historian whose work has for several decades explored the memory and history of slavery and indentureship in his native Guyana. He also directs the Ameena Gafoor Institute for the study of Indentureship and its Legacies, and has also acted as Guyana’s ambassador to UNESCO and to China.
The Legacies of Enslavement network at Cambridge congratulates David on this wonderful recognition of his career and contribution – of which we also look forward to seeing much more.
You can read news items on David’s nomination on the Selwyn College website and in more detail in the Caribbean Camera website.
